Multi-Touch Screen

We have moved away from the idea of making an instrument. Instead we want to make an "interactive sound experience". We really like the idea of a multi-touch screen, and want to use this technology in our project.

Instrument research

This is a map of some traditional instruments, and shows some of their qualities.

The instruments to the left are quite easy to get a nice sound from in the beginning, while it can be really hard to get a nice sound from the instruments at the right side.

With the instruments at the top you have a great possibility to affect the tone, with the instruments at the bottom you haven't got so much possibility to do that.

They all have in common that you have to practise for a long time to become really good.

Work plan

FASE 1: RESEARCH

  • How is the interaction with existing instruments, especially for a novice?
  • What experiments have been done lately making new instruments?
  • Which situations / actions are suitable for a new instrument?
  • Who is interested in a new instrument?
  • What kind of instrument do we want to make?

FASE 2: CONSEPT
  • brainstorming / brainwriting. How can an instrument listen, think and speak?
  • evidencing
  • task analysis
  • ?

FASE 3: EVALUATION
  • prototype trials
  • heuristic analysis
  • usability testing
  • ?

Task 3

We have designed a service that suggests places you would like to go to in a city, based on places you and other people already have been to. It is likely that we in the future will pay using our mobile phone, and as you do this you get suggestions for relevant places close to the place you are.
